Daasity vs a custom data warehouse: packaged commerce models or built for you?

Daasity is the closest product to a custom build: managed pipelines and commerce models in your Snowflake or BigQuery. Here is how to choose between them.

The short answer

Daasity and a custom build end up in a similar place: commerce data modeled in Snowflake or BigQuery with SQL access. Daasity gets you there with prebuilt models, retail and syndicated data connectors, and a monthly fee. A custom build costs a project instead, uses models written for your business, and lets you pick the BI tool. Brands with standard omnichannel needs should look hard at Daasity.

How Daasity and a custom warehouse differ

  1. 01

    Prebuilt schemas vs your models

Daasity maintains unified commerce schemas and a contribution-margin foundation. A build writes the models around your rules.

  2. 02

    Monthly fee vs project

Daasity lists plans from $1,499 a month. A build is a one-time project plus your own Snowflake and BI bills.

  3. 03

    Looker vs your choice

Daasity serves dashboards through a Looker instance it manages. A build can use Sigma or the BI tool your team prefers.

Pricing at a glance

Daasity

Independent, privately held (San Diego, CA; founded 2017; no acquisition of Daasity found). Tim Vollman named CEO in 2025.

Daasity is a managed ELT and data-model product for consumer brands: it extracts Shopify, Amazon, marketing and retail data into a Snowflake or BigQuery warehouse, maintains unified commerce schemas on top, and serves prebuilt dashboards through a Daasity-managed Looker instance. It targets omnichannel brands (DTC, marketplace and retail/wholesale) that want warehouse-grade data without building pipelines themselves.

What Daasity does well

Its connector list goes beyond DTC into retail: syndicated data like SPINS and NielsenIQ, retailer portals, and distributor data, with NetSuite as an enterprise add-on. Contribution margin is part of its data foundation, SQL access is full, and an AI analyst add-on works in the app and through MCP. Every plan carries a 30-day onboarding guarantee.

For a brand selling DTC, on Amazon, and into grocery or specialty retail, that retail coverage is hard to match without a lot of custom work.

Where a build differs

Packaged schemas are a strength until your rules differ. Brands with unusual bundles, several brands with different cost structures, or finance teams with specific refund and cost timing needs end up customizing, which Daasity sells as Enterprise work. Its TikTok Shop connector is in beta.

Daasity’s own price, its Shopify App Store price, and third-party sites disagree, so get a written quote.

Where Daasity is better

  • Extractors and unified commerce schemas (orders, retail, marketing, and others) are built and maintained by Daasity, work a consultant would otherwise have to build in dbt and keep running
  • Data lands in a Snowflake or BigQuery warehouse with full SQL access, so the brand can still query and extend it, unlike closed ecommerce dashboards
  • Prebuilt connectors for hard-to-get retail sources: SPINS and NielsenIQ syndicated data, Whole Foods and Kroger portals, and UNFI/KeHE distributor data
  • Ready-made report library (flash, cohort, attribution, inventory, promotion analysis) on day one, backed by a 30-day onboarding guarantee on all plans
  • Reverse-ETL audiences that push segments to Meta, Google, Klaviyo, Attentive and Braze without a separate activation tool
  • AI Analyst add-on answers plain-English questions from governed metrics in-app or via an MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Codex

Who should pick which

Pick Daasity if

  • You sell DTC and into retail and need syndicated or retailer data.
  • Standard omnichannel commerce models fit your business.
  • You want a managed product with an onboarding guarantee.

Pick a custom warehouse if

  • Your rules for bundles, costs, or brands do not fit a standard schema.
  • You want Sigma or another BI tool instead of a managed Looker.
  • You would rather pay for a build once than a platform fee every month.
