Saras Analytics (Daton, Pulse, iQ) vs a custom data warehouse

Saras sells ecommerce ELT (Daton), prebuilt dashboards (Pulse), and an AI analyst (iQ). Here is which part replaces a custom build and which part feeds one.

The short answer

Saras is three products. Daton is cheap, ecommerce-focused ELT into your own warehouse, and it can be the pipeline under a custom build. Pulse and iQ are packaged models and an AI analyst that compete with a build more directly. Pick iQ if its certified ecommerce model fits; build custom when you need logic it reserves for Enterprise or that it does not model at all.

How Saras Analytics and a custom warehouse differ

  1. 01

    Daton is a pipeline

Daton loads 200+ sources, including long-tail Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop, and NetSuite connectors, into your warehouse, priced by rows. It does not model your business.

  2. 02

Pulse and iQ are packaged models

Pulse adds prebuilt datasets and dashboards; iQ adds a certified ecommerce model and a natural-language analyst. Both use Saras’s definitions.

  3. 03

Custom logic costs more on their side

Custom semantic layers and custom sources are iQ Enterprise features. In a build, custom logic is the default.

Where Saras is strong

Daton’s ecommerce connectors are maintained monthly against API changes, which is real work a custom build otherwise absorbs. It has a free tier up to a million rows a month. iQ validates its model against your historical questions and states a go-live of about ten business days to three weeks.

We wrote about which ecommerce sources are worth connecting; Daton covers most of them.

Where a build still fits

Saras’s own comparison says iQ Essentials does not include multi-touch attribution, MMM, or incrementality. On Pulse Growth, data sits in a Saras-managed warehouse; using your own is an Enterprise option. Its product names and pricing pages have shifted during 2026, so confirm what you are buying.

Where Saras Analytics is better

  • Daton's long-tail ecommerce connectors (TikTok Shop, Walmart WFS, Amazon Seller/Vendor/Ads/DSP, Recharge, Stay AI, NetSuite, Stord, Fulfil, Cin7 Core) are maintained by Saras, with monthly release notes fixing API changes that a custom build would otherwise absorb
  • Daton loads into your own Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift, so the data stays reusable by any BI tool, and Daton Lite is free up to 1M rows/month
  • Saras iQ includes a prebuilt ecommerce data model, certified metric definitions and validation against 30-100 historical questions, with a stated go-live of about 10 business days to three weeks versus months for a custom dbt project
  • iQ answers plain-English questions in a web app, Slack or Claude (via iQ MCP) and shows the SQL it ran, which reduces analyst ticket load
  • Pulse Growth pricing ($250-$1,500/month by revenue band) undercuts the cost of a consultant-built warehouse plus BI licenses for smaller brands

Who should pick which

Pick Saras Analytics if

  • You already have a warehouse and need cheap, ecommerce-specific ELT (Daton).
  • You are a $10M+ Shopify brand and iQ’s certified model fits your business.
  • You want an AI analyst over governed data without hiring a team.

Pick a custom warehouse if

  • Your business rules do not fit a predefined ecommerce model.
  • You want the dbt project and the BI layer under your own control.
  • You want Sigma workbooks built for specific teams on top of the data.
