Tableau to Sigma formula translator

Paste a Tableau calculated field and see how to write it in Sigma. LOD expressions and table calculations get a plan, not just a renamed function, because that is where migrations break.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent anywhere.

Restructure

Restructure. Min([Order Date])

Min([Order Date])

Where it goes in Sigma

A column at a Customer grouping level. To use it on every row, build a table grouped by Customer and bring it back with Lookup().

What changes

  • Sigma has no LOD keywords. The level of detail comes from the grouping a column sits in.
  • FIXED ignores dimension filters in Tableau. A Sigma grouping respects workbook filters, so filter-sensitive results can change.

Check after you switch: Compare the result for a few rows with filters on and off.

Function map

The swaps that come up in almost every Tableau workbook.

TableauSigmaTypeNote
SUM / AVG / MIN / MAXSum / Avg / Min / MaxDirect swapSame meaning.
COUNTD([x])CountDistinct([x])Direct swapSkips nulls.
IFNULL / ZNCoalesce([x], 0)Direct swapOne function covers both.
DATEDIFF / DATETRUNCDateDiff / DateTruncDirect swapUnit first, as a lowercase string in double quotes.
IIF / IF THEN ELSEIF ENDIf(cond, value, ..., else)Direct swapOne If() takes several condition and value pairs.
CASE WHEN ENDSwitch(value, case, result, ..., else)Direct swapSame order of arguments.
CONTAINSContainsCheck behaviorCase sensitive. Wrap in Lower() to ignore case.
RUNNING_SUMCumulativeSumCheck behaviorRestarts in each group; follows sort order.
TOTAL / WINDOW_SUMGrandTotal / SubtotalCheck behaviorPick the level explicitly.
{FIXED} / {INCLUDE} / {EXCLUDE}Grouping levels or LookupRestructureFilters behave differently.

What this tool does not do

It translates one formula at a time, using the function names in Sigma's documentation, and flags the ones that need a different structure. It does not read workbooks, see your data, or prove the numbers match. That still takes a side-by-side check on the same data.
