TikTok Shop to Snowflake
A TikTok Shop order settles for less than its sale price, and most of the difference sits in fields a quick report skips. We load the detail so channel margin reflects the full cost.
The short answer
What you can load from TikTok Shop
- Orders
- Revenue after seller discounts, shipping lines, shipping discounts, subsidies and taxes, kept at one row per order.
- Fee entries
- Platform commission, affiliate ads commission, referral fees, co-funded promotion fees and any new fee type, stored as one row per fee.
- Settlements
- What the platform pays out after its own deductions, used to check that revenue minus shipping minus fees equals the payout.
How we set it up
- 1
Land the raw order records
We keep the full order record, including the nested fee list, so a fee type nobody planned for is still in the warehouse.
- 2
Build a fee ledger
Each fee becomes its own row with order ID, fee type, amount and posting date, so fees add up by type, order or period.
- 3
Rebuild orders to settlement
We rebuild a sample of real orders from sale price to payout, including discounted, shipping-discounted and affiliate-credited ones, and compare with the report.
- 4
Link copies in other systems
A TikTok Shop purchase can also appear in Shopify and in Amazon fulfillment data. We link those records to one business order.
What breaks, and how we handle it
- Zero commission is not zero fees
- In one order we traced, the platform commission field was 0.00 and the order still settled at about 48 cents on the dollar after shipping and other fees.
- Fee rows inflate revenue
- If each fee row repeats the order revenue, three fee rows turn one sale into three. We keep revenue in an order table and fees in a fee table, and join after aggregating.
- Settlement is not profit
- Product cost, packaging, outside fulfillment, other ad spend and overhead still come out after the payout.
- Shipping incentives need a rule
- Each platform subsidy needs a written decision: revenue, a cost reduction or its own line. In one build TikTok shipping incentives were excluded from sales.
What we build on top of the TikTok Shop data
- Order-level revenue table
- Fee ledger by fee type and posting date
- Sale price to settlement waterfall per order
- Channel contribution after product and packaging cost
Common questions
Does a 0.00 commission on a TikTok Shop order mean it was free to sell?
No. Affiliate ads commission, referral fees and co-funded promotion fees can sit in other fields. Check every fee field, not just the one called commission.
Is the TikTok Shop settlement amount my profit?
No. Settlement is what the platform pays out after its own deductions. Product cost, packaging, other ad spend and overhead still have to come out.
Why does my TikTok Shop revenue go up when I add fee data?
Usually because order revenue is repeated on every fee row and then summed. Keep revenue at order level and fees at fee level, and join them after aggregating.
How many TikTok Shop orders should I reconcile by hand?
Five per channel is enough to find most gaps, as long as they cover different cases: discounts, shipping discounts and affiliate-credited orders.
Can I rely on a published TikTok Shop fee rate?
Fee names and rates change over time. Read the line items on your own settlement statements rather than relying on a published rate.
