Power BI to Sigma migration consulting

Move your Power BI reporting to Sigma with a clear plan for shared semantic models, DAX measures, source data, permissions, and report delivery.

What the migration includes

Map reports and shared models

Inventory reports, workspaces, semantic models, owners, and consumers. Separate shared modeling work from the reports that depend on it.

Review DAX and data preparation

Trace measures, calculated columns, relationships, filter context, and Power Query transformations. Agree on the business meaning before rebuilding the calculation.

Plan data access and report behavior

Establish where imported or DirectQuery data comes from. Review slicers, drill-through, bookmarks, custom visuals, exports, and embedded reporting for the target design.

Check results and access

Compare source and target numbers under the same filters and data cutoff. Test restricted users and document the refresh, deployment, and support process.

A practical first engagement

Start with a migration assessment

Bring a representative report and the business question it answers. Linus works with your team to define the pilot, identify dependencies, and agree on what a correct result looks like.

  1. Confirm source assets, business owners, and access.
  2. Locate the data and its refresh cutoff.
  3. Identify calculations and interactions needing review.
  4. Map permissions and restricted-user test cases.
  5. Define pilot acceptance criteria and exceptions.
  6. Plan migration waves, handover, and rollback.

The assessment produces an inventory, a dependency and exception list, a recommended pilot, and a scope with explicit assumptions. Pricing and timing follow the scope review.

Questions to settle before the rebuild

Read the Power BI migration planning guide, then explore what an assessment should include.

Can DAX measures be converted automatically?

Automation can assist, but each report still needs a review of its measures and behavior. We scope manual work and validate the resulting numbers before recommending cutover.

Does each report need a separate Sigma model?

We assess shared dependencies first. Reports that use the same business definitions may be able to share a model, subject to their data and access requirements.

How long will the migration take?

The estimate depends on data readiness, shared models, calculation complexity, security, and the number of workflows to validate. A representative pilot gives us a better basis for planning the remaining work.

Bring one report to the conversation

Start with the report, its users, and the number they need to trust. We can use that to discuss the work and the right first step.
